Ellen/Nellie Cubitt was born in 1870 in New Zealand – the daughter of Robert Cubitt, a hawker, and Mary Elizabeth Saul. (See 160 Mary Cubitt

Nellie attended Kaikorai School, Dunedin and when she signed the suffrage petition the family were living in King St, Roslyn – now Erin St.

She married William Henry Haigh, a bootmaker, in 1899 and they had five children.

The family lived in Roslyn, Dunedin where Ellen died on 25 December 1932.

William died in 1955, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
