Nellie Dailey was born Ellen Manchester in 1872 in Waimate, South Canterbury to George Manchester and his wife Matilda Frances Chapple.

In 1892 Ellen married William John Dailey, a farmer at Hook.

The electoral roll for 1893 records William a farmer at Hook. In 1896 William was a stock agent, living in Waimate.

Ellen and William had one son and two daughters; Daisy Frances born 1894 and Eileen May born 1907. The son, George Carlisle Dailey, born in 1893, served in WW1 and was awarded the Military Cross in 1917 and Mentioned in Despatches.

In 1911 the family was living in Queen street, Waimate. By 1925 they had moved to Point Bush Road, Waimate.

William died on 22 March 1932 age 67 years and is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery, Methodist section, Row 14, Plot 000016.

Nellie died on 21 April 1961 age 88 years and is buried in the Waimate Old cemetery, Methodist section, Row 14, with her husband.

Ellen’s older brother, George Alfred Manchester married Isabella Dailey, sister of William John Dailey
