Helen Imrie was born in Victoria, Australia in 1869 – daughter of Alexander Imrie and Marion Fowler. Helen’s family arrived in Otago in 1872 on the Omeo. Her father had been the first person to import draught horses into New Zealand in the 1860’s and ran a horse importing and exporting business.
Helen married William Robert Gawn, a farmer, in 1898. They lived on the Taieri Plains near Dunedin and at Hawea in Central Otago.
Helen died on 26 September 1930 at Dunedin and William died in 1951. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
