Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ellen/Nellie Hindle was born about 1860 in Australia.

She married Josiah Pearce Lane, a cordial manufacturer, in New Zealand in 1887 and they had seven children.

Nellie signed the suffrage petition in MacLaggan St, Dunedin although, at the time, the family were living in, nearby, Canongate.

Nellie died on 2 December 1918 and Josiah died in 1941 – they are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
