Phoebe Alice Grigsby was born in 1878 in New Zealand – the daughter of Henry Grigsby and Charlotte Elizabeth Mott.
In 1881 her mother re-married – what had happened to her father is unclear.
When Phoebe signed the suffrage petition she was in South Dunedin, possibly living with her brother William who married in Dunedin in 1892.
She married, farmer, Anton Nielsen, on 28 August 1899 at her mother’s home in Auckland.
Phoebe and Anton had five children before he died in 1908 at the age of 38 – he is buried in the Buffalo Cemetery in the Coromandel.
Phoebe re-married in 1934 to Henry Robert Gardiner.
She died on 31 December 1951 and Henry died in 1959 – they are both buried in the Purewa Cemetery, Auckland.
