Biography contributed by Clare Cramond
Pamela Smith, nee Corke married Charles Smith in 1872. Pamela signed the Petition and both she and Charles were on the Electoral Rolls from 1893 into the twentieth century. They had at least nine children including Pamela Lucy, Sarah Minnie, Albert Henry, Augusta Matilde (Tilly), James Richard; Charles George, Margaret Pamela and George (three children who died in infancy); and Celisle Adeline.
School records from Frasertown show Charles Smith was the guardian of several of the Baird children in the 1880s. Corke, was the maiden name of their mother Ann Matilda so she is likely to have been Pamela’s sister.
In 1914, Pamela and Charles’ son embarked for the First World War. Two years later Pamela Smith, Frasertown, was registered as a midwife in the NZ Gazette in 1916.
Pamela Smith made her will on 12 December 1920 and died four days later.
