Patience Rebecca Robb arrived in Auckland from the UK on the Oxford in 1874, aged four, with her four older siblings and her parents, William and Mary. She married William Henry Whelan in 1896. William worked as a salesman then council employee and they lived all their adult life in Auckland. Patience had two children, Kathleen Violet in 1902, and William Groves in 1905. Her son was killed in the Western Desert campaign in 1941, leaving a wife and children.  Patience died in 1967 aged 96.
