The 1893 electoral roll confirms Patience Puerua domestic

Patience Chalmers was born in 1863 in New Zealand – the eldest daughter of Thomas Chalmers, a farmer, and Sophia Careless.

She did not marry and when she signed the suffrage petition Patience was living with her family in Puerua in South Otago.

She died at her sister’s home in Balclutha on 16 June 1909 and is buried with her family in the Balclutha Old Cemetery.
