Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Priscilla Grimmett was born 31 August 1868 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of Charles Fitch, a sergeant in the army, and Elizabeth Healy.

What happened to her parents is unknown – she emigrated to Otago in 1878 on the Piako travelling with John and Eliza Cross nee Fitch. (See 40 Eliza Cross)

Priscilla married Ezra Arthur Grimmett, a builder and plasterer, in 1885.

Soon after their marriage they moved to Victoria, Australia where two children were born before returning to New Zealand about 1892 where a further two children were born.

When Priscilla signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Leckhampton Court, Caversham, Dunedin.

They later lived in Timaru before settling in Wellington.

Eliza died in Levin on 31 July 1934 and Ezra died in 1945, they are buried together in the Karori Cemetery, Wellington.
