Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Rebecca Jane Knox was born about 1846 in County Mayo, Ireland.

She came to New Zealand in 1875, arriving in Auckland on 8 September 1875.

Rebecca married William Nugent Mulville, a police sergeant, shortly after her arrival by special licence on 16 November at All Saints’ Church, Auckland.

They had six children and when Rebecca signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Castle St, Dunedin.

They later lived in Christchurch and Wellington before moving to Manly, Sydney in the 1910s.

Rebecca died on 31 December 1919 in Manly and William died in Adelaide in 1922.
