Rachel Louisa Rudd was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of William James Rudd and Mary Cardie.
Her mother died in Greymouth in 1875 and the family moved to Christchurch.
Rachel married storekeeper, Joseph Wallace Bramwell in 1890 and when she signed the suffrage petiton they were living in Taylorville, near Greymouth.
They had two sons and moved to Feilding in 1894 where Joseph was the postmaster.
Rachel died at her home in Feilding on 5 May 1896 – she is buried in the Feilding Cemetery.
Joseph re-married in 1899 – he died in 1938 and is buried with his second wife, also in the Feilding Cemetery.
