Rebecca Lumb was born in 1864 in New Zealand – the daughter of George Lumb, a shipping agent, and Agnes Gilbert.

She married Charles Alfred Beal, a photographer, on 13 March 1889 in Dunedin.

They had no children and when Rebecca signed the suffrage petition they were living in St David St, Dunedin.

Rebecca died on 25 August 1927 and Charles died in 1931, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
