Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Rebecca Black was born about 1843 in Ireland.

She emigrated to New Zealand and she married David Heron Chalmers, a farmer, on 2 February 1865 in the Milton Parish.

They had nine children and when Rebecca signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Glenore near Milton.

They later retired to Milton – Rebecca died on 5 December 1901 and David died in 1925.

They are buried in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
