Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Rebecca Stewart was born in 1868 in New Zealand – the daughter of Hugh Stewart and Rebecca Gillon. (See 72 R G Stewart)

When Rebecca signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Gore and she was working with her mother and sisters (See 72 Minnie Stewart and 72 Mary Stewart) in the Gore Coffee Palace. Rebecca married George Frederick Trew, an ironmonger, in 1895.

They lived in Gore until the 1900s when they moved to Christchurch.

Rebecca died on 26 November 1927 and George died in 1936 – they are buried together in the Bromley Cemetery.
