Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Rebecca Sarginson was born in 1861 in New Zealand – the daughter of John Henry Sarginson, a gold miner and farmer, and Betsy Robson.

She married farmer William Waddell on 30 April 1882 at her home Birdspark, Waikaka.

They had eight children and lived at Rough Craig in the Waikaka Valley.

When Rebecca signed the suffrage petiton she did so at, nearby, Gore.

William died in 1926 and Rebecca died at her home on 29 October 1928 – she is buried with William in the Gore Cemetery.
