Rebecca MacDonald was born in Aberdeen in 1834, and migrated to New Zealand some time before 1872. In that year she married George Wohlmann, a farmer, police constable and veteran of the Crimean War. That year she had their son Ward George Wohlmann, later notable as the New Zealand Commissioner of Police, followed by daughters Amy in 1874 and Minnie in 1876. They lived in Dunedin until 1895, when they moved to Otautau. George died in 1899, and Mrs Wohlmann died in 1925. On her death she was described as a loving and kind-hearted woman, with a large circle of friends.
