Robina was born about 1857 in Midlothian in Scotland. 

She emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 1870s and she had four children, two with a William Farley and two with a William Bertram. 

No marriages can be found although when Robina married, sawyer, William Garbutt in 1882 she did so as a widow. 

Robina and William had 5 children, one who died in infancy, and when Robina signed the suffrage petition they were living in Dundas St, Dunedin. 

William died in 1912 and Robina died on 21 July 1920 – they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
