Robina Elizabeth Russell Hughson, known as Ral, was born in 1877 in Riverton, New Zealand – the daughter of William Hughson, a school janitor, and Robina Margaret Russell. Her family moved to Dunedin in the 1880’s due to her father’s health problems and Robina worked as a dressmaker.
Robina did not marry and she died on 22 May 1927. She is buried with her parents in the Northern Cemetery.
