Biographical information provided by Fiona Oliver for the He Tohu exhibition:
Rosamond Jane Smyth never married and spent all her life in Wellington, where she was a member of Salvation Army’s city corps. In 1942, at age 70, she was murdered along with her sister, Brigadier Annie Smyth (also of the Salvation Army), while visiting Annie at Wairoa, near Napier. The two women were beaten to death with a poker in the Salvation Army Hall and their bodies found ten days later. The murderer was not found. Rosamond was described as a ‘kind, unassuming, gracious character’.
