Biographical information provided by Stefanie Lash for the He Tohu exhibition:

Rose Ann Hugill has signed the Women’s Suffrage Petition with her sister, Jane. In 1893 they were living with their family in Wellesley Street, Auckland. Rose married Albert Rushton in 1908, and they moved to Rotorua, where Albert worked at the Blue Baths. They had one daughter, Ethel, born in 1909.

After Albert’s death in April 1933 Rose and Ethel returned to Auckland, where Rose died only a month later.
