S.E. MURRAY is Sarah Elizabeth MURRAY nee HOLDER "Lizzie" b. 20 May 1854 (?)Tong, Shropshire d. 5 Sep 1939. She and 3 sisters came to NZ on the Opawa in 1880. Their parents were Charles HOLDER 1821-1895 and Fanny nee BUTTERY (pron. 'Beautrais': of Huguenot origin) 1822-1883. Both were ardent ChCh preachers and Methodist activists. Lizzie m. 1883 Rev. Daniel James MURRAY 1851-1928; also ardent. They lived in many places in NZ, ending in Auckland. The couple had 3 children: Charles Holder 1884-1885; Irene Jane 6 Nov 1886-27 May 1963 m. Herbert PRICHARD 4 ch; Clarence Rainton 22 Feb 1892-10 Dec 1953 m. Romola TAYLOR 3 ch.
Lizzie also adopted Waimate waif Dora BURRELL / MURRAY / LOPER / AUGUST b. 1894 d. Masterton 29 Nov 1939 (birth parents prob. Margaret and Edwin). Dora became estranged from her adoptive family upon learning of her adoption. She was in a series of relationship until her death in 1939. Later m. Thomas George LOPER, then partner of Cyril Harold AUGUST. 2 ch.
