S Firth was born Sarah Mosley on 27 November 1836 in Haworth, Yorkshire, England to Isaac Mosley and his wife Rebecca Duckett. Sarah was baptised on 30 June 1837 in St Michaels and All Angels church, Yorkshire.

In 1862 Sarah married John Hanson Firth, Grocer in Bradford, Yorkshire.

Sarah and John had five children.

The family came to New Zealand between 1875 and 1885.

The 1885-87 electoral rolls records John at Taranaki Street, Wellington, Salesman. By 1890 he had moved to Tinakori Road, Thorndon. By 1893 Sarah and John were living at 45 Courtenay Place, Wellington. He was a Grocer. In 1899 they had moved to Wadestown.

John died on 25 April 1900 age 64 years in Wadestown and is buried in Karori cemetery Public I, Plot 57J.

Sarah died on 28 March 1910 at the residence of her daughter Mrs J R Samson, Clyde street, Island Bay, Wellington and is buried with her husband in Karori cemetery in the same Plot.

Sarah’s daughter Clara N Firth also signed the Women’s Suffrage Petition, Sheet 413.
