Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Sarah Jane Alexander was born about 1851.
In 1875 Sarah and her husband William emigrated to Otago on the Dallam Tower accompanied by William’s brother Henry and his wife Rachel. (See 71 R Alexander)
They do not appear to have had any children – William worked as a cab proprietor and livery stable keeper.
When Sarah signed the suffrage petition they were living in South Dunedin.
Sarah died in the Dunedin Hospital on 11 January 1900 – she is buried in the Southern Cemetery.
It is unclear what happened to William, he may have returned to England.
