Susan Florence Poingdestre was born about 1853 in Jersey.
She emigrated to Canterbury in 1874 on the Rakaia and she married draper Henry Jackson in 1879.
They had six children, two who died in infancy, and when Susan signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cobden and Henry was then working as a school caretaker.
Henry died in 1904 – he is buried in the Karoro Cemetery.
Susan later went to live with her daughter in Hastings. She died there on 8 July 1927 and is buried in the Hastings Cemetery.
Her obituary said she 'was prominent in Methodist Church circles'.
