Sarah Ann Keedwell was born in 1844 in Bristol, Gloucestershire – the daughter of Joseph Keedwell, a carpenter, and Mary Ann Davis.
She emigrated to Melbourne with her family in 1858 on the Parsee – her mother died in Victoria in 1862.
The family came to New Zealand – Sarah arriving at Hokitika on the Tararua in 1872 with one of her brothers.
She signed the suffrage petition at Greymouth where her brothers Stephen and Alfred were living and she worked as a teacher.
Sarah died on April 1st 1911 – she is buried in the Hokitika Cemetery.
