Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sophia Meldrum Guild was born on 6 December 1855 in Cupar, Fifefshire, Scotland – the daughter of James Guild, a ploughman, and Margaret Mitchell.

She married James Page on 4 June 1875 in Dunbog, Fifeshire and they had three children before the family emigrated to Otago on the Victory in 1883.

They had one more child after their arrival and when Sophia signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Queenstown and James was working as a carpenter.

In later years they moved to Dunedin where Sophia died on 2 December 1910 and James died in 1927, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
