She married John Waldie, a draper, on 13 November 1884 at the Knox Church Manse.

John died in September 1885, he is buried in the Northern Cemetery, and their son John Alexander was born one month later.

When Susan signed the suffrage petition she was living in Macandrew Rd, South Dunedin.

She re-married in 1897 to Robert Brodie Wilson, a widower with several children and a fellmonger. They lived in Dunedin where Robert died in 1906, he is buried in the Northern Cemetery. Susan married again in 1908 to John Elliot Cochrane, a shepherd and widower.

They lived in Middlemarch, then in Kurow, where Susan died on 27 July 1914, she is buried with Robert Wilson in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.

John died in the Oamaru Hospital in 1919, he is buried in the Kurow Cemetery.
