Mary Isabella Matthews, known as Sissy, was born in 1866 in New Zealand – the daughter of James Alexander Matthews, a printer, and Isabella Miller. (See 108 Isa Matthews)
When she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Hawthorn Avenue, Mornington, Dunedin.
She married Robert Bruce Halley, a warehouseman, at her parent’s home on 1 June 1893 and they had three children.
Her mother’s obituary in 1927 mentions that Mary is living in South Africa - whether she spent the rest of her life there is not known.
