Sara Jane Ottrey was born in 1860 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of Thomas Ottrey and Mary Wake.
She married William Charles Dale, a butcher, in 1883 in Victoria and they came to New Zealand soon after.
Sara and William had six children and lived in Tapanui where Sara signed the suffrage petition.
William died in 1924 and Sara died on 7 January 1946, they are buried together in the Tapanui Cemetery.
