Biographical information provided by Lynly Yates for the He Tohu exhibition:

Sarah Ann Wrigley was born 26 May 1870 at Masterton to parents Sarah Ann and James.  Her siblings were John Christopher born 1867, Mary Grace born 1869, Ellen Bennington born 1871, James Charles born 1873 and William Leonard born 1878.  In 1893 Sarah Ann signed the Suffrage Petition along with her sister Ellen Bennington Wrigley.  I believe it was not Sarah’s mother Sarah Ann Wrigley who signed the petition.  In 1893 Sarah (spinster) was living in Lincoln Road, Masterton.   On 16 January 1895, in Masterton, Sarah married James Candy who was a music teacher and musician.  They had five children: John James born 1895, Eric born 1898, Caroline Sarah born 1900, Frederic Harold born 1903 and Henry born 4 April 1906.  They resided in Queen Street later Cambridge Terrace, Masterton.  Her husband James Candy died 12 October 1938 and Sarah Ann Candy 18 April 1929.  They were buried together at Masterton cemetery.
