Sarah was born about 1836 in Scotland, she came to New Zealand about 1866.

When she married Elsden Osborne Cooper, an expressman, on 13 November 1874 in Dunedin, she is shown in the records as Mrs Hadon/Haden so must have previously been married. When Sarah signed the suffrage petition she and Elsden were living in Grange St, Dunedin.

Elsden died in January 1921 and Sarah died on 12 May the same year, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
