Sarah married Thomas Cooper, a ships carpenter, on 5 February 1880 and they had four children.

When Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Bluff.

Thomas died in 1913 and Sarah died on 12 November 1938, they are buried together in the Bluff Cemetery.
