Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sarah Ann Gregory was born in 1872 in Eastbourne, Sussex, England – the daughter on James Gregory, a labourer, and Elizabeth Packham.

As a young child she emigrated to New Zealand with her family and they settled in Waihola.

Sarah married Edward Hollick, a carpenter, in 1892 and they had five children.

When Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Milton.

In 1929 they sold their property in Milton to run the 'Te Rahiri Boarding House' in Upper Stuart St, Dunedin.

Before their departure they were 'entertained at “surprise” parties on Thursday and Saturday evenings. Mrs Hollick was presented with as lady’s handbag and xylonite toilet set.'

After a few years they gave up the boarding house business – Edward died at their home in Forbury Rd in 1935.

Sarah died on 14 February 1970 in Dunedin, she is buried with Edward in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
