Sarah Jane Dickson was born in 1865 in Victoria, Australia – the daughter of John Dickson and Sarah Good.
She married Adam Cruickshank, a farmer from Gore, in Victoria in 1889 and they sailed for New Zealand soon after.
They had four daughters and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition they were farming in the Waikaka Valley, near Gore.
They moved to Timaru about 1909 where Adam died in 1929.
Sarah died at her home in Timaru on 17 July 1961, in her 97th year.
She is buried with Adam in the Timaru Cemetery.
