Sarah Jane Short was born in 1858 in Armagh, Ireland.
She married Robert Stinson/Stenson, a farm labourer, at Drumragh in 1878 and they emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Timaru.
They lived for a short time at Lovells Flat before they moved to Milton where Sarah signed the suffrage petition.
They had five children, two who died in infancy.
Sarah died at her home in Milton on 11 December 1933 and Robert died in Dunedin in 1937, they are buried together in the family grave in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.
