Sarah McKinnon was born about 1834 in Scotland.
She married Angus McDonald and shortly after they sailed for Victoria, Australia on the Gambia arriving in April 1855 - their first child was born on the voyage.
They settled in Victoria where they had a further four children before they, once again, sailed for Otago about 1862.
A further four children were born after their arrival. The family had a farm at Georgetown in North Otago where Sarah signed the suffrage petition.
Angus died in 1899 and Sarah died at Georgetown on 26 October 1928, they are buried in the family grave in the Georgetown Cemetery.
At the time of her death only two of Sarah’s children were still living.
Her obituary said she 'was well known to everyone, and by everyone was held in the highest esteem for her good nature and kindly disposition.'
