Sarah Frances Botting was born on 20 April 1857 in South Australia – the daughter of William Robert Botting and Jane Dungey.
She sailed for Otago with her family in 1866 on the Alhambra and they settled in Naseby.
Sarah married Joseph Neale, a miner, on 28 June 1876 in Naseby.
They had seven children and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Livingstone in North Otago.
In the 1900s they moved to Christchurch where Joseph died in 1919.
Sarah died on 11 August 1952, at the age of 95, they are buried together in the Bromley Cemetery, Christchurch.
