Sarah Tinnock was born about 1850 in Dundonald, Aryshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Tinnock, a quarrier, and Rachel Cochrane. (See 49 Mrs Tinnock)
She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1860 on the Lady Egidia arriving in February 1861.
Sarah married John Lockheart Nicol on 20 November 1872 at her parent’s home 'Darlieth Farm', Highcliff - they had five children.
When Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living at Ngapara in North Otago.
She died there on 31 August 1893, at the age of 42 and is buried in the Oamaru Cemetery.
John later moved to Southland where he died in 1926, he is buried in the Orepuki Cemetery.
