Sarah Wykes was born about 1850 in Groby, Leicestershire to Read and Sarah Wykes. She came to Auckland in 1865 on the ship Bombay aged 14 with her parents, and siblings Elizabeth, Mary Ann and Frederick.

Sarah married Samuel Charles Streeter at Pitt Street Methodist Church in 1872. Her husband was a butcher in Karangahape Road. Sarah and Samuel had two children, Emma and Frank. She was living in Mount Eden at the time of the 1893 petition. 

She died in 1924 and is buried with her Husband at Waikumete cemetery.
