539 Sarah Thompson
Sarah Cox was born in Essex, England in 1828 and emigrated as a single woman to Adelaide, arriving on the Stenbonheath in May 1849.

On 9 Feb 1852, she married William Thompson in Penwortham, South Australia and a son and daughter were born there. They worked for William Robinson on the Hill River Station and in 1856 came over to New Zealand with ‘Ready Money’ Robinson who purchased the Cheviot Hills estate. Two more sons and five daughters were born in New Zealand, and after eleven years at Cheviot Hills they took up a farm at Cust.

Her husband died in 1896 and Sarah died in 1902. Both are buried in the Cust – West Eryeton Cemetery in Canterbury.
