Sarah Lock was born about 1838 in Northamptonshire, England to labourer Thomas and his wife Jane. Jane died before Sarah was ten-years-old. Thomas remarried.
Sarah married William Wedding in 1860 in Bilton, Warwickshire. He was a 27-year-old labourer, son of Thomas and Charlotte. They had their first child in Bilton.

Later that year, the family immigrated to Auckland on board the Eagle Speed. They settled in Mahurangi, where the rest of their children were born:

- John (1874–1912)
- Elizabeth (1876–1957)
- Walter Turner (1878–1956)

Sarah died in Auckland on 4 February 1910 aged 72. William died at his daughter Sarah's home in Auckland on 29 May 1915 aged 82. Both were buried in the Warkworth Anglican Church Cemetery. William left 1100 pounds in his will, to be divided equally between his children.
