Alice Susan was born in 1869 in Mahurangi, Northland, one of eight children born in Mahurangi to George Stuart Scott and Susannah nee Bennett. Both of Alice’s parents were born in New Zealand of early settlers. George in 1837 in Russell and Susannah in 1842 in Wellington. Alice was living at home in 1893 when she signed the petition.
By 1899 Alice was living in Hobson Street, Auckland and working as a tailoress. She lived in various addresses in central Auckland as her younger sister Emily worked as a nurse at Auckland Hospital. For a while, Emily lived with their father George at Mahurangi. She may have nursed him through his last illness until he died in 1918. There were five children surviving him, who shared equally in his estate.
Both Alice and Emily remained unmarried. They lived together from about 1931 at addresses in central Auckland. Emily died in 1955 and left her estate, worth 350 pounds to her sister Alice. Alice died two years later in 1957, aged 87 and was buried at Purewa Cemetery with her sister. Her probate left real and personal estate valued at 700 pounds, to three second cousins; Elizabeth Hemus, Hilda Collins, and Edith Nobbs.
