Selina Annie Tighe was born in 1860 in Hampshire, England. 

She emigrated to Otago in 1883 on the Victory and, in 1886, she married bootmaker John Doms. 

They had three children before John died in 1891. 

When Selina signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Greymouth. 

She had a daughter in 1900 and she died of influenza on 14 November 1918. 

Selina and John are buried in the Karoro Cemetery, Greymouth.
