Sophia Gilmour was born on June 16th 1840 in Markinch, Fife, Scotland – the daughter of David Gilmour, a tailor, & Janet Patrick.
She married John Hutchison, a coal miner, on March 13th 1874 in Markinch & they had, at least, 4 sons.
The family emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 1880’s & they settled in Dunedin.
When Sophia signed the suffrage petition they were living in King Street.
She died on March 18th 1911 & John died in 1931, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
