Sophia Margaret McCluggage was born in 1866 in New Zealand – the daughter of Thomas McCluggage and Mary Raison.

She married Thomas Lunam on 12 July 1889 in the Waitati parish and they had six children.

When Sophia signed the suffrage petition they were living in Peter St, Caversham in Dunedin.

They later moved to Palmerston North where Sophia died on 6 April 1908, shortly after the birth of her last child - she is buried in the Terrace End Cemetery.

Thomas died in 1930 in Tolaga Bay – he is buried in the Tolaga Bay Cemetery.
