Susan Gallagher was born about 1860 in Dublin, Ireland.
She emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Westland and she married Robert Bruce, a carpenter, in 1881.
They had eight children, two who died in infancy, and when Susan signed the suffrage petition they were living in Maryhill Terrace, Mornington, Dunedin.
Susan died on 26 July 1924 and Robert died ten years later at Balclutha. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
