Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Ursula Smith was born on 5 June 1872 in Dunrossness, Shetland, Scotland – the daughter of Paul Smith, a mariner with the RN, and Barbara Gilbertson. (See 341 Barbara Smith)

She emigrated to New Zealand later that year on the Euterpe with her family – they stayed on Stewart Island for a short time before settling in Bluff where Ursula signed the suffrage petition.

She married Gilbert Arthur Wright, a clerk, in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia in 1902- they had four children.

Gilbert died in 1937 and Ursula died on 9 March 1964, they are buried together in the Karrakatta Cemetery.
