Violet Janet Rose was born in 1867 in New Zealand – the daughter of Charles Cowan Rose, a clerk, and Jane Agnes Leck. (See 66 J Rose)

She grew up in Dunedin & she married William John Sinclair Millar, a tobacconist, on 1 February 1887 at Knox Church, Dunedin.

They had two daughters and when Violet signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Dundas Street and William was working as a shipping clerk.

William died in Invercargill in 1895, he is buried in the Invercargill Eastern Cemetery.

Violet moved to Christchurch for a time then she married William Milne, a widower and miner, in 1928.

They lived in Alexandra in Central Otago then returned to Dunedin where William died in 1938.

Violet died on 18 September 1945, she is buried with William in the Northern Cemetery.
