"Mrs Sorley was branch treasurer when the [Women’s Christian Temperance Union Feilding] branch formed, and a leader in most of the events and campaigns they undertook.
Alice (née Lethbridge) married Dr John Sorley in Whanganui in 1888, and in 1890, the couple moved to Feilding where she owned a large property in her own name. Alice Sorley shows up as a very strong supporter of temperance and had good reason to take this stance.
