Who can provide the uplines for this Te Moanaroa - as far as I am aware this particular Te Moanaroa was of the Ngaati Maahanga tribe, and is the reason why Te Awaitaia is kneeling at his feet.. because this particular Te Moanaroa was the eldest son of Tapatai Te Punatoto the paramount chief of Waikato in his time. And would be the only person Te Awaitaia was junior too....

kiaora Riki, I am your Aunty. Your Koro William is my Dads Cousin, your Nanny is Laura which makes her my aunt. I also know your mum Pania, she is my cousin. My grandmother, Miriama Moanaroa was your Koko Naes sister. The only female in their whanau. Miriama was my Dads mother. My dad, Richard, and Uncle Rauna are brothers.

Avice, kiaora, I am closely related to you on both the Moanaroa and Simon side. I know Rangikaahu. Tahinga was an Iwi, not a Hapu. Moanaroa and Turiwhati were brothers. Ben Rupapere, his daughter Rangi married a Gilgen. Hence David Gilgen. Rangi is with the Mormon Church.

I'm looking for whakapapa connection to my koroua who was Hoani/Hone Nopera/Noble. He was also known as Raiha in the maori land court records. His mother was called Raiharangihakume. John married Paeroa Te Koi of Ngati Te Ata.
I was brought up in tairawhiti on my mother's side.
I would really appreciate someone who has ngati mahanga whakapapa for me to trawl thru.
thanks Edda mcCabe

On my mothers side of the family Chief Te Para Haimona (Simon)of Ngaati Taahinga descendant of Te Wherowhero, our Homestead is called Rangikahu Te Akau. We are also related to the Te Moanaroa's and as far as I know Ngaati Taahinga was not a sub tribe to Tainui. Yes the McNish family and the Gilgens are also relations through marriage. We have a treasure of photo's that date back to the late 1800's along with legal land documents. If you go to the Maori land court in Hamilton you will be amazed at how much information on ancestors. Also the Mormon Temple can assist.

I do not have any particular comment to make however am very interested in the book that Tony McCracken has written concerning the union of Te Moanaroa's daughter, Te Ani and David MacNeish. I am the great granddaughter of Charles Henry McCracken and would like to make contact with Tony if possible, as I have a few queries I would like him to help me with.
Many thanks Lorraine

Hi all It was not my intention to mislead the readers that I had written the information on Te Moanaroa. Tony is right, he researched and wrote this family history and I did not ask his permission to publish. I was just so excited to find this picture that added the information without thinking. Apologies to you Tony. I can be contacted at [email protected]
